''Funhouse'' is the fifth studio album by American pop singer Pink, released by LaFace Records worldwide in October 2008. Upon its release, the album reached number one on the charts in 6 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands and United Kingdom, while debuting at number two in Germany, Ireland, and United States.
Singles from the album include "So What", which is considered as Pink's most successful song to date, and is her first to ever reach the top spot in the United States. "Sober" and "Please Don't Leave Me" were released as the second and third singles respectively, and both reached the Top 20 and the Year-End Chart in the United States. They were followed by title track "Funhouse" and "I Don't Believe You" which received moderate success. Final single, "Glitter in the Air", which was performed at the 52nd Grammys, was released as the seventh single of the album, and reached top 20 in the Billboard Hot 100. The album has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
The album's original title was ''Heartbreak Is a Motherfucker'', a reference to the album's frank references to Pink's separation from her then ex-husband, motocross racer Carey Hart. However, the title was changed to avoid public reactions that may cause a decrease in the sales.
To date, the album has earned Pink three Grammy nominations. It became her highest charter in the United States, and the first to spawn a number-one single there, in addition to five Hot 100 entries, four of which reached the top twenty. It's also her third to feature a Parental Advisory sticker.
Just like ''I'm Not Dead'', ''Funhouse'' was re-released. With 2001 sophomore effort M!ssundaztood, Pink memorably distinguished herself from the prefab pretty girls of the pop landscape: "Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears / She’s so pretty, that just ain’t me." With the Paris-baiting video for 2006’s "Stupid Girls," she didn’t just burn her bridges to that world—she blew them up with fistfuls of C-4. Clearly, Pink has ambitions that exceed stumbling around trashed on red carpets; thank god somebody does. The ever provocative singer-songwriter takes another abrasive swing with "So What," the first single off Funhouse, tersely informing an ex (Corey Hart, perhaps?), "I’m still a rock star. I got my rock moves and I don’t need you." While that may seem a little tame compared to the bloodletting of the past, keep in mind that it’s only the first we’ve heard of Funhouse. A kinder, gentler Pink? We wouldn’t have it… and neither would she.
